Baby 17 Months Old

My baby is 17 months old! And according to Baby Centre, "you may notice baby ability to do things by himself such as undressing herself, brushing her teeth without your help and tenderly nursing her dolls and stuffed animals. She's learning how to take care of herself, and others and she'll refine this ability as she gets older."

Well, he still a long way off for that. But I did notice he is asserting himself and wants things his way or he will throw a tantrum or fake cries. Can't be giving in to whatever baby wants as that is a sure way to spoil him. Loving him is sometimes requires doing some tough love, as he would need discipline. Because in future, a disciplined person would be able to take care of himself as well as others.

Ady boy beginning to assert himself and wants his way. I think time for discipline. Any suggestion for toddler this young?

Hmm... Ady boy beginning to assert himself and wants his way. I think time for discipline. Any suggestion for toddler this young?

It would be good to start early otherwise it will become difficult when he gets older. Yet on the other hand we would like him to explore the world and learn new things for child development.

Must be a way to balance what he can and cannot do.

Baby Fall Down From Cot

Oh, dear! Baby fell down from the baby cot! Don't how he managed to climb out from it. Cry like mad of course! Will have to observe him as the height was quite high. Wife said it is time to use playpen where the side walls are higher and the distance from ground much less.

Seven signs that your child loves you

Just received this newsletter from Baby Centre. This really warms the heart and gives you a nice buzz for the day!
Some of the points is still not applicable to baby just yet (eg points 5, 6 and 7). I do noticed baby is doing some of the things describe in this brief article.

Cheers!

Seven signs that your child loves you

1. Your newborn stares into your eyes — he's actually working hard to memorise your face. He doesn't understand anything else about the world, but he knows you're important.

2. Your baby thinks about you even when you're not around. Between eight and 12 months old, he'll start to scrunch his face and look around when you leave the room — and he'll smile when you return.

3. Your toddler throws wicked tantrums. Nope, those screaming fits don't mean he's stopped loving you. He couldn't show he was so hurt and angry if he didn't trust you so deeply.

4. Your toddler runs to you for comfort when he falls down or feels sad. Children this age may not truly understand the meaning of "I love you," but their actions speak louder than words.

5. Your preschooler gives you a flower picked from the garden, a finger-painted heart, a sparkly stone or another gift.

6. Your preschooler wants your approval. He'll start to be more cooperative around the house and he'll look for chances to impress. "Look at me!" will become a catchphrase.

7. Your school-age child trusts you with secrets, such as his first crush or his most embarrassing moment. You're his confidante, even if he shies away from your hugs in public.

Baby 15 months old and walking!

Baby is 15 months and he just started to walk unassisted! This is a milestone for baby. For the past couple months, he was just crawling all over the place with some minor walks by bracing himself on furnitures.
It took a lot of prompting to get him to try walking more. The motivation came when I took him to the shopping mall and decideed to just hold one hand and let him walk assisted.
He would look at others walking by and he would notice other children who would walk. Going home later, he would try to walk more assisted. And when he was ready, he walked without support! And in some instance still managed to walk unassisted while holding on to some bulky containers!
He still need more encouragement so will let him walk more while holding his hand.
He is still a little wobbly and I noticed his walk was rather bow legged. A quick check online from baby centre, and it was explained that it was normal. Baby will grow out of it when his muscle strengthens. So now just need to encourage him to walk more!

Baby Ten Months Old

Got another tip from the Baby Center that I subscribe. Seems like whenever baby goes bah-bah I also mimic him. Looks like that was not such a good idea. Should follow like what Baby Centre suggests, reply with a proper English sentence. That way he will pick up the nuances of the language.

Here was the short tip from the Baby Center newsletter:

Words or word-like sounds may now be spilling out of your baby. When he chatters at you, just chatter right back. Keep your language simple but use real words. The idea at this age is to model the correct pronunciation, not to "correct" him. When he says "bah-bah" for bottle, for instance, you could say, "Yes, that is your bot-tle." He probably understands a lot more than you realise, so you can keep up your side of the conversation by describing daily activities as you do them, reading to him and singing songs.

For baby to learn a language is going to take some time. That's why it is good to start them off early. In Malaysia here where we are multi-lingual able to speak English, Malay, Chinese plus the various dialects, we really need to start to converse with our child so that they can pick up as many languages as possible. The more the merrier!

The more language one can speak, the better standing for job prospect and communication especially for work.

For now, I'm going to need a lot of patience to help baby pick up all the languages!

oh dear, baby got flu!

Oh dear! I think baby caught my bacteria and now he got flu. Probably sore throat too since he sometimes didn't want to drink milk or take baby cereal. I tried to sleep in a different room during my nasty dry cough bout for the whole long month. Well the dry cough get very loud when it was irritated it would wake baby. At the same time reduce the amount of bacteria or virus flying around.

Still it wasn't enough to prevent infection as young baby still have low immunity. I guess the nightly play time with baby could still have germs flying around. The final round that caused the infection was when my wife forgot to adjust the air-conditioner in the master bedroom from 23 °C to a warmer 25 °C and it got very cold in the morning.

Well the weather was very blistering hot lately in the end month of March. So the varying hot and cold temperature would cause many people to become sick.

Anyway, my wife brought baby to see the paediatrician and some medicine was prescribed. That helped to ease and reduce the runny nose and reduce the coughing. Well, despite the runny nose, baby still happily crawled everywhere and made many attempt to stand up with furniture support of course!

Nice to see his bubbly cheerful self! A laughing smiling baby sure perks up your day!

Baby milestone 9 - 10 months old

With so many in family sick, it's a wonder my baby still got the attention. Now at 9 months to ten moths old baby, he finally was able to crawl forward! Initially he could only push himself backwards, now he could propel himself forward to just about anywhere!
So I made a little mini play area by using two sets of foldable mattresses surrounded by the sofa set and TV bench. Where there are gaps in the furniture fencing or danger of hard surface I line the place up with cushion pillows from the sofa set.
Now he got a fairly spacious play area to crawl around! Better than my mom-in-law who just use bare marble floor. Baby knocked on the hard floor so many times already whenever he misjudge his movement and ended up crying a lot!
And from crawling, baby is now able to pull himself up to a standing position too! And he loves to stand up so much!
So, to celebrate he is now able to clap hands too! I'm spying that he could do some waving as well but not sure if baby knows it is for waving goodbye. And when the Disney Playhouse channel breaks into any lively songs, baby would lift both hands and wave them! Wow!
He is also a very curious and inquisitive young child exploring any items that you pass to him or seek out by baby. If his crawling was more steady, bet you that he is going to crawl into every nook and cranny!
Now is the time to learn for the baby as the brain development is the fastest and my wife has bought some expensive language learning kit. Forgot the name, but I'll be sure to blog about it later!
Cheers!

Milestone, baby can sit!

Oh, yes! Just today, placing baby in sitting position without any support, he could balance himself while whacking at his baby toys! I tried it yesterday and he toppled over onto my hands, so this time round I prop him up and he could sit without any support! Of course I still place my hands nearby just in case, he still looks a little shaky, but by and large he is sitting pretty much on his own!

Crawling still not there yet, though he just might judging from baby pushing his butt upwards. However he likes to sit on the baby walker and move around. So those motionless baby rocker as well as that chair sitting trainer my wife bought is no longer wanted. In fact baby make a tantrum if you place him on those as he couldn't get himself mobile!

Baby Play Time

Sometimes you just need something simple for baby play time. No need to spend a mini sum on expensive toys to entertain your baby although you may still want to buy some colourful toys to attract baby attention. Sometimes simple items will suffice. All you need is a good dose of creativity and imagination.

My 4 month old son likes to be kept entertained and usually that meant carrying him around sitting front face forward. And this is one carrying position that is very tiring on my arms.

So if I got the chance to do some other way to distract baby and still allows for cognitive development without carrying him around I would do so.

Laying him on the bed I thought I just the nappy cloth for some peekaboo game. Raising the cloth and hiding my face behind it and then lowering it to reveal my face makes for an interesting game to play with baby. Sometimes I will brush the nappy cloth just barely touching baby body and face to provide a gentle feeling for touch sensitivity and light breeze all done to improve baby sense of touch and mental ability.

Such a simple game and yet inexpensive and with so many benefit. Baby just laughs and giggles with glee. Ah, the sound of laughter is simply priceless!

More baby stuffs

Lena decided to get another baby stroller. She wanted a lighter weight than the one her friend passed to her. Oh, well... She wants to spend if that makes her happy. Shopping provide a good mood coz it releases some happy mood chemicals in the brain.

The Combi baby stroller is light weight and has good design. Anyway after a few years the baby will out grow it.

Whoops! After buying the Combi stroller we were well on the way home when Lena decided she would prefer the McClaren Stroller instead. The compact folded designed meant that it would save space in the car boot trunk. She was worried the steel frame would eventually rust over that of Combi which is aluminum frame. But in the she decided she would prefer the space saving design. The McClaren stroller actually cost more but the umbrella folding design would save the space.

So back to Baby Kingdom in Kota Damansara to change the stroller. It was the last day of sales so it was still a good buy despite the higher price tag.

Assembling the baby cot

Assembling the baby cot is sure ain't easy. Dismantling it was quite a jiffy. But putting it back together single handedly is really tedious.

My brother-in-law has no more need of the baby cot and we could use a hand me down to save some money. At about RM600 is not cheap! Sure it is a bit worn but it saves so no need to complain about it. Baby will outgrow it soon enough and you will wondering what to with it when you don't need it.

For now I need to wrestle with parts and they are coorperating. Don't have any help as the missus is at the in-laws house. But when she comes back with the baby we going to need it. So have assemble it and get the baby cot ready for precious baby.
